The most important thing to pay attention to in this movie is the other side of the dialogue and the emotions expressed by the characters.
What kind of love is Ernest’s love? Is Ernest really an indecisive and dependent character? What are Molly’s feelings about Ernest? Is King Hale the source of all events? Are the Osage people accepting of all injustice because they are not civilized?
Molly and Ernest’s emotional acting, eye contact, and cinematography all come together to create a film that raises questions throughout watching this movie. Scorsese’s films do not end at the level of the storyline, but the links below that connect the director’s perspective, interpretation, and message, helping you to constantly immerse yourself in the film. If you are an audience who is focused on the story, it could definitely be long and boring. Even directing dynamics are not used to help immerse yourself to the story. The reason his films will be remembered is because he has constantly struck a balance between films as artworks, films as records (and representations of reality), and films as entertainment. I think this film did too for sure.
Bong Joon-ho’s films are allegorical realism, Park Chan-wook’s films are photographic realism, If Tarantino is a stylized (like comic book) realism, Scorsese’s novelistic realism.
Anyway, I think I like realism movies. Nolan movies are fun, but in my opinion, he makes Hollywood movies the ‘best’ which is dominant at story lines and visuals.

몰리와 어니스트의 감정 연기, 눈빛, 그리고 시네마토그래피, 모든게 어우러져서 보는 내내 질문을 던지는 영화. 스콜세지 영화는 스토리라인의 층위에서 끝나지 않고 그 아래 감독의 시선, 해석, 메세지가 연결된 고리들이 끊임없이 영화에 몰입하게 도와준다. 만약에 스토리에 집중하는 관객이라면 분명 길고 지루하지 않을 수 없다. 심지어 연출적 다이나믹이 스토리에 몰입을 돕기 위해 사용되지 않으니. 그의 영화가 기억될 이유는 작품으로서의 영화와 기록(과 재현)으로서의 영화, 엔터테인먼트로서의 영화의 균형에서 끊임없이 균형을 맞춰왔고, 이번에도 그 완벽한 조화를 보여주었기 때문이라고 생각한다.
봉준호의 영화는 우화적 리얼리즘이고, 박찬욱의 영화는 사진적 리얼리즘, 타란티노는 코믹북적인 리얼리즘이라면, 스콜세지는 소설적인 리얼리즘.
어쨋든 나는 리얼리즘 영화를 좋아하는 것 같다.
놀란 영화는 재미있기는 하지만.. 내 기준에서는 헐리우드 영화를 가장 ‘잘’ 만든다 - 의 느낌.
